THE M-DCPS TEAM: SPOTLIGHT ON EMPLOYEES
It Takes…Teamwork

Driven by a compassion for people and a commitment to excellence, Valtena G. Brown has dedicated her professional life to impacting the lives of children in Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS). A product of Miami-Dade’s public schools herself; Brown has led a career accented with many accolades and honors, including the National Drug Free Schools Award of Excellence, given to Palmetto Middle School when she was a TRUST Counselor there.

This former principal of Florida City Elementary School has a passion for civic and community involvement. She is a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Circle of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She also is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

“You can only make a difference when you get involved,” says Brown. “I want to lead by example, teaching my children and the children of our school district that being involved in your community is important.”

As administrative director, Brown works closely with Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Antoinette Dunbar, who described Brown as a brilliant visionary thinker with a deep compassion for children and a dedication to the work that furthers their development. Beginning this summer, Brown will take on greater responsibilities overseeing the District’s Early Childhood and Voluntary Pre-K programs.
