School Board Approves $12.37 Million For GOB Projects Small Business Enterprise (SBE) Goals Met or Exceeded

The Miami-Dade School Board approved four General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects at its regular monthly meeting yesterday with a total investment valued at $12.37 million. The GOB was overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2012 to renovate, remodel and replace schools, expand student capacity, enhance safety, and provide technology upgrades. The following projects were awarded for design and pre-construction: 


Greynolds Park Elementary School - Scope of work includes: Portable demolition and site restoration; replacement of playground, recoating and restriping of paved play surfaces; HVAC improvements; safety and security upgrades; roofing as needed; window replacement in three buildings; restroom renovations; plumbing and electrical upgrades as needed; selective lighting and flooring replacement; and painting.


Total project allocation - $3.2 million Completion – Summer 2019

Total Sub-Consultant SBE Participation – 23 percent

Total Sub-Consultant SBE Participation for Pre-Construction – 10 percent


Redland Middle School - Scope of work includes:  Portable demolition and site restoration; play court resurfacing; selective window and door replacement; selective ceiling and flooring improvements; HVAC and electrical upgrades; restroom renovations; auditorium seating, lighting and sound system and stage wood flooring enhancement; elevator upgrade; and painting.


Total project allocation - $2.99 million Completion – Summer 2019

Total Sub-Consultant SBE Participation – 23.2 percent

Total Sub-Consultant SBE Participation for Pre-Construction – 10 percent


Coral Way K-8 Center - Scope of work includes: Repair of artificial turf; play court improvements; roofing as needed; selective window replacement; HVAC improvements; restroom renovations; selective ceiling, lighting and flooring improvements; and painting.


Total project allocation - $3.18 million Completion – Summer 2019

Total Sub-Consultant SBE Participation – 21 percent

Total Sub-Consultant SBE Participation for Pre-Construction – 11 percent


South Miami Middle School - Scope of work includes: Replacement of basketball goal standards and play court and parking lot improvements; selective window replacement; HVAC improvements including the cafeteria; electrical and fire alarm upgrades; and painting.


Total project allocation - $3 million Completion – Summer 2019

Total Sub-Consultant SBE Participation – 19 percent

Total Sub-Consultant SBE Participation for Pre-Construction – 15 percent


The District-established S/MBE utilization goals were met or exceeded for both the architects and contractors, with highly diverse sub-consultant teams. This was further strengthened by a strong commitment to Local Workforce Utilization. 


Continued fidelity to the implementation of the GOB program and the District’s steady commitment to inclusiveness and diversity in its procurement process are positively impacting the quality of the educational environment and the local economy.
