South Florida Turns Out to Support Education at third Annual Superintendent’s 5K Challenge

Thousands of teachers, students, parents and community supporters joined Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho to run and walk in support of education at the annual Superintendent’s 5K Challenge held this morning in downtown Miami’s Museum Park.

The male runner with the fastest time was 33-year-old Alvaro Vasquez with a winning time of 17:14. The female winner was Lina Adjouadi who, at only 13 years old, ran the five-kilometer course in 21:02. 

"This community cares deeply about public education and ensuring students have the resources needed to succeed in the classroom," said Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho. "This morning, South Florida demonstrated their support for our students and teachers by participating in the Superintendent’s 5K Walk in remarkable numbers. Today was a great day for education in Miami-Dade."The Superintendent’s Challenge 5K Run/Walk is hosted jointly with The Foundation for New Education Initiatives and was created to promote health and wellness in our schools and in our community.

Superintendent Carvalho is flanked by the overall male winner, Alvaro Vasquez and the overall female winner Lina Adjouadi.
