School Board Approves Commissioning and Award of GOB Projects Valued at $44.9M SBE Goals Met or Exceeded

The Miami-Dade School Board approved the commissioning of architects and contractors for five General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects and the construction award for an additional project collectively valued at approximately $44.9 million, at its regular monthly meeting yesterday.  Voters overwhelmingly approved the GOB in 2012 to renovate, remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety; and provide technology upgrades. The projects awarded for design, pre-construction or construction, were the following: 


South Pointe Elementary School – Preliminary scope of work for the Part 1 commissioning includes: renovations to the existing facility and a classroom addition with 144 student stations, which will be developed as a prototype.  


Total project allocation - $ 6.45 million Completion – October 2020

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (for architect’s team) – 33 Percent

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (for contractor’s team) – 11 Percent


Homestead Middle School - Preliminary scope of work for the Part 1 commissioning includes: re-surfacing and re-striping of basketball courts, HVAC improvements, window replacement, auditorium improvements, restroom renovations, flooring improvements, and painting.

 

Total project allocation - $ 4.77 million Completion – May 2021

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (for architect’s team) – 34 Percent

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (for contractor’s team) – 11 Percent


Joella C. Good Elementary School - Preliminary scope of work includes: fire alarm system improvements, new covered walkway, parking lot and driveway improvements, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) improvements, including Direct Digital Controls, lighting enhancements, restroom renovations, security camera system improvements, and painting.

 

Total project allocation - $ 4.675 million Completion – May 2021

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (for architect’s team) – 20 Percent 

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (for contractor’s team) – 10 Percent


MAST @ F.I.U. – Scope of work includes: New high school prototype for approximately 640 student stations.


Total project allocation - $ 15.822 million Completion – June 2020

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (for architect’s team) – 20 Percent 


Coral Gables Senior High School - Scope of work includes: demolition of Buildings 6 and 7 and replacement with a new two-story building, a Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Engineering (MEP) assessment for a new chiller plant and electrical vault, and site restoration.

 

Total project allocation - $ 11 million (GOB-funded) Completion – August 2020

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (for architect’s team) – 31 Percent 


Norwood Elementary School - Preliminary scope of work includes: new classroom building with covered walkways and related site work.


Total project allocation - $ 2.227 million (GOB-funded) Completion – January 2019

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (for contractor’s team) – 22.94 Percent
