Learning Never Stops at M-DCPS! Students Can Earn Big Prizes with Summer Challenges, Maximize Learning with District-issued Smartphones

School’s out, so what’s next?  Starting on June 8th to August 3rd, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) students can have some fun with three reading and math challenges that will give them the opportunity to win some big prizes! 


The myON Summer Reading Challenge – open to students in grades PreK-8 enrolled in the online myON program during the 2017-2018 school year – rewards the top 10 myON readers for “Most Time Spent Reading” and scoring at least 70 percent on book quizzes. The top three District-wide readers will be awarded a $50 gift certificate and an Apple iPad Mini (first-time winners). The top winner in each grade-level will receive a $50 gift certificate.


The Reflex Math Summer Challenge – open to students in grades 2-8 enrolled in the online Reflex Math program during the 2017-2018 school year – rewards the top 10 Reflex Math users in four categories: highest average daily use, highest “Green Light Percentage,” “Greatest Facts Gained” and “Greatest Facts Solved.”  The top three District-wide winners will receive an Apple iPad Mini (first-time winners). The top winner in each grade level will receive a Reflex Math Swag Bag.


The Reading Plus Summer Challenge – open to students in grades 9-12 enrolled in the online Reading Plus program during the 2017-2018 school year – rewards the top four winners (one from each grade level) with the most “Lessons Completed” and earning at least 70 percent on the lessons are eligible to win a $50 gift certificate and an Apple iPad Mini ((first-time winners).).


Also, this summer, eligible high school students who need assistance with algebra or English language arts, will have the opportunity to stay academically engaged by participating in Mobile Device Summer Checkout, with custom-tailored activities. 


Senior high school students who passed the Algebra 1 course but failed the Algebra 1 End of Course (EOC) exam; rising seniors who failed the English Language Arts (ELA) Florida Standards Assessment; and students who meet the above criteria and do not have reliable Internet access at home are eligible to receive a Sprint smartphone to use as a hot spot during the summer and into their senior year. Students will have access to a collection of digital resources, including various online prep modules and courses.  For more information, visit http://digital.dadeschools.net/sprint.asp.
