School for Advanced Studies to Hold Information/Application Sessions for 10th Graders on Sept. 23, Oct. 6

School for Advanced Studies (SAS), a nationally-recognized collegiate high school, will be holding information/application sessions for the 2019-2020 school year on Saturday, Sept. 29 and Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 at three Miami Dade College campuses:

Saturday, Sept. 29
  9 a.m. – Kendall Campus, Building 7 Gymnasium - 11011 S.W. 104th St., Miami, FL  33176
(Students interested in attending SAS Kendall, SAS West in Doral or SAS Homestead campuses should attend this meeting)

Saturday, Oct. 6
  9 a.m. – North Campus, Lehman Theater - 11380 N.W. 27th Ave., Miami, FL  33167
  1 p.m. – Wolfson Campus, Room 1261 - 300 N.E. 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33126

All current Miami-Dade County 10th graders with a minimum unweighted 3.0 grade point average are invited to apply. They may become eligible for admission upon satisfying all program requirements, including earning minimum SAS college entrance exam scores. Enrollment is limited. If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of seats available, a random selection process will be used to admit students.

SAS welcomes applicants from all public, private, parochial and charter schools in Miami-Dade County. Additionally, many home-schooled students choose SAS to complete their secondary studies and begin their transition to college. Students attend SAS their last two years of high school while also attending MDC. In most cases, they graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate degree (100 percent of the SAS Class of 2018). Students receive free tuition, fees, textbooks and, if eligible, school bus and Metrorail transportation funded by Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Students are able to obtain a true college experience since both their college dual-enrollment courses and their Advanced Placement (AP) high school courses take place on the MDC campus. All high school courses are AP level except for Pre-Calculus and Research.

SAS is located on five Miami Dade College (MDC) campuses: Homestead, Kendall, North, West (Doral) and Wolfson. SAS has recently been designated as "The Collegiate High School" for Miami-Dade County and all five campuses have been designated as "A" schools and Schools of Excellence by the Florida Department of Education.
