School Board Approves Contracts for Four GOB Projects Valued at $25 Million, Small Business Enterprise Goals Met or Exceeded

The Miami-Dade School Board approved the commissioning of architects and construction managers for services related to four General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects valued at approximately $25 million, at today’s regular monthly meeting.  


Voters overwhelmingly approved the GOB in 2012 to renovate, remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety; and provide technology upgrades. Following are the details of the projects: 


Leisure City K-8 Center – Scope of work includes: P.E. Shelter replacement and covered walkway; demolition of seven portables and site restoration; site drainage; resurfacing and restriping of the parking lots and drives; play court improvements; new Kindergarten play area including surface, shade structure and gates; heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system improvements; selective window replacement; electrical improvements; lighting, ceiling and flooring improvements; upgrade of fire alarm and public-address systems; selective reroofing; restroom renovations; and exterior/interior painting.


Total project allocation - $6.43 million                        Completion – January 2022

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (Architect): 41.2 percent 

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (Contractor-pre-construction): 11 percent 


Palm Springs Elementary School – Scope of work includes: demolition of portables and site restoration; resurfacing and restriping of the parking lots and drives and drainage improvements; play court improvements; additional covered walkways; restroom renovations; HVAC improvements; window replacement; ceiling, lighting and flooring improvements; electrical upgrades; security camera, fire alarm and public-address system improvements; selective reroofing; exterior lighting; stage lighting; exterior/interior painting.


Total project allocation - $6.26 million                        Completion – January 2022

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (Architect): 32 percent 

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (Contractor-pre-construction): 10 percent 


Miami Shores Elementary School – Scope of work includes: demolition of portable buildings and site restoration; new primary classroom addition to include six classrooms and toilets; resurfacing and restriping of existing parking lots and drives and addition of new parking; play court improvements; playground improvements; additional security cameras; selective reroofing; improvements to the stage area; HVAC improvements; electrical improvements; upgrade of fire alarm system; selective replacement of exterior and interior doors; ceiling and lighting improvements; restroom renovations; exterior/interior painting.


Total project allocation - $6.88 million                        Completion – January 2022

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (Architect): 33 percent

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (Contractor-pre-construction): 10 percent 


Riviera Middle School – Scope of work includes: demolition of portable buildings and site restoration; resurfacing and restriping of the parking lots and drives; play court improvements; additional walkways; HVAC improvements; ceiling, lighting and flooring improvements; window and door replacement; electrical upgrades; restroom renovations; exterior/interior painting.


Total project allocation - $5.68 million                        Completion – January 2022

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (Architect): 20 percent

Total Sub-Consultant Small Business Enterprise Participation (Contractor-pre-construction): 10 percent
