Students, staff and the community can once again look forward to the many beautiful new buildings and renovations that await them at Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) during the 2019-2020 school year. These improvements are made possible with the continued implementation of the General Obligation Bonds (GOB) – to renovate, remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety and provide technology upgrades. This year, $129.4 million in capital improvements are set to be unveiled as a result of the GOB. To date, GOB expenditures total approximately $733.6M ($92.8M for technology and $640.8M for facilities), with another $74.9M contracted. All completed GOB projects have come in on time and at or under budget.
Miami Arts Studio at Zelda Glazer - Total investment of $15.3 million. Project includes a 700-seat state-of—the-art theater with theatrical lighting, audio visual equipment, and acoustics, other spaces include a lobby, ticket booth, concession area, orchestra pit, control booth and dressing rooms. Additionally, the new building includes; dance studio, production studio band, chorus room, supporting spaces, parking expansion and a new basketball court.
Cutler Bay Middle School - Total investment of $14.9 million. Project includes a new 3-story building, new administration area, new classrooms to provide 615 new student stations, and a music lab in the auditorium to provide a total of 1112 student stations. Resurfacing of existing basketball courts, new parent drop-off, renovations and window replacement of kitchen and cafeteria building, and demolition of existing portables.
Southwest Miami Senior High School - Total investment of $16.2 million. Project includes demolition of portables; window replacement; renovation of media center; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) replacement including controls; plumbing fixtures replacement; replacement of gym flooring; bleacher replacement; new drop-off; selective ceiling and flooring replacement; selective lighting replacement; and exterior painting.
West Lakes Preparatory Academy - Total investment of $ 9.6 million. Phase I of the project includes remodeling & renovations of existing classrooms, new covered patio, new dining patio, and new middle school basketball court. Phase II of the project includes remodeling of 12 classrooms, new PE shelter, new bus drop-off, parking lot improvements, security cameras and clock upgrades.
Ethel Koger Beckham K-8 Center - Total investment of $7.5 million. Project includes a new 2 story addition for approximately 378 student stations with ancillary facilities, new covered walkways, additional parking, selective exterior metal doors replacement, selected HVAC improvements and selective paint of existing buildings.
Ruth K Broad/ Bay Harbor K-8 Center - Total investment of $8.5 million. The project includes 396 new student stations building addition containing 15 classrooms, labs, bathrooms and other related spaces, a covered basketball court with all new back boards, nets and lighting. Completion of artificial turf playfield and related site work improvements.
DA Dorsey Technical College (Phase II) - Total investment of $2.6 million. Project includes new entry courtyard, remodeling including administration building, student services, window replacement, HVAC replacement, electrical upgrades, new light fixtures, vinyl composite tile (VCT) flooring and ceiling tiles replacement, roof repairs, landscape upgrades, and fence and parking lot improvements.
Norwood Elementary School - Total investment of $2.2 million. Project includes a new classroom building with 37 ESE student stations and renovation of existing space including a new storefront entrance; new security cameras; upgrades to basketball courts; and enhancements to parking lot, fire safety system, roofing, electrical, plumbing, fire/safety and HVAC.
Southside Elementary School - Total investment of $3.5 million. Project includes complete historic restoration and structural upgrades to building comprised of 5 classrooms, group restrooms and related spaces.
Miami Beach Fienberg / Fisher K-8 Center - Total investment of $2.5 million. Project includes structural repairs, auditorium renovation, window and door replacement, new flooring and curtains, enhancements to HVAC and renovations of existing gym. Project also includes resurface parking & hard courts, replacement of fire alarm system, fencing and gates, playground, basketball goals.
Norland Middle School - Total investment of $4.1 million. Project includes a new Little Theatre/ Black Box Building, new covered main entrance and plaza, physical education shelter, partial exterior and interior renovations, parking modifications, new fencing, new pre-engineered outdoor dining tensile structure, new courtyard, new walkway connections and landscaping.
Ben Sheppard Elementary School - Total investment of $6.6 million. Project includes portable demolition; new classroom building with 286 new student stations; new bus drop-off and covered walkway; parking lot improvements; new playground and impact surface; HVAC, security alarm, and select lighting improvements; and exterior painting.
Gratigny Elementary School - Total investment of $5.8 million. Project includes portable demolition, window and HVAC replacement throughout; restroom renovations; new PE shelter; campus wide plumbing and electrical improvements; ceiling, lighting and flooring renovation; new playground and covered walkway; parking improvements and exterior painting.
Citrus Grove Elementary School - Total investment of $5.7 million. Project includes 24 Exceptional Student Education (ESE) classroom building addition, new ESE playground, partial demolition, new middle school basketball courts, and new covered walkways.
Benjamin Franklin K-8 Center - Total investment of $9.2 million. Project includes new addition to provide approximately 132 student stations and new PE Shelter, demolition of 12 existing portables, new playground, 20 additional parking spaces, public address (PA) and security camera systems, covered walkway, window and HVAC replacement, electrical upgrades, interior renovations such as lighting and ceiling in select areas, restroom renovations and exterior paint.
Carrie P. Meek/ Westview K-8 Center - Total investment of $2.4 million. Project includes a one-story building addition housing 10 classrooms totaling 736 student stations, and all supporting spaces.
Greynolds Park Elementary School - Total investment of $3.1 million. Project includes the removal of portables; new playground, security alarm cameras and equipment; roofing and window replacement; bathroom renovation; electrical upgrades; new VCT flooring, storage cabinets and lighting; and selective paint.
Miami Springs Middle School - Total investment of $5.4 million. Project includes the removal of portables; parking lot improvements; fire alarm and P/A upgrades; roofing, window and door replacement; restroom renovation; electrical upgrades; selective VCT flooring; lighting; and selective paint.
Kenwood K-8 Center - Total investment of $4.3 million. Project includes site drainage improvements, resurfacing of play courts, new playground, fire alarm and P/A upgrades; window replacement; restroom renovation; electrical upgrades; selective VCT flooring, cabinets, lighting; and selective paint.
The District-established Small/Micro Business Enterprise (S/MBE) utilization goals were met or exceeded by the architects and contractors on these projects with highly diverse sub-consultant and sub-contractor teams. This was further strengthened by a strong commitment to local workforce utilization.
Continued fidelity to the implementation of the GOB program and the District’s steady commitment to inclusiveness and diversity in its procurement process are positively impacting the quality of the educational environment and the local economy.
