At its regular monthly meeting yesterday, the Miami-Dade
School Board approved the commissioning of architects and construction managers
for General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects valued at approximately $25.5
million at four elementary schools and two K-8 centers.
Voters overwhelmingly approved the GOB in 2012 to renovate,
remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety; and
provide technology upgrades. The following are details of the projects:
Coconut Palm K-8 Academy - Rodriguez Architects, Inc. (RAI) was commissioned as the
architect/engineer-of-record to design a new 12-classroom modular building that
will feature 216 student stations at Coconut Palm K-8. The project, located in
Homestead, will also provide additional parking spaces, including driveways and
walkways.
Total project allocation - $6.7 million Completion
– February 2023
Total Sub-Consultant Small/Micro Business Enterprise
(S/MBE) Participation: 15.5 percent
Gateway
Environmental K-8 Learning Center -
RAI was also commissioned as the architect/engineer-of-record for this
project, to design a new 12-classroom addition with 216 student stations at
Gateway Environmental K-8 Learning Center, also located in Homestead. The
project will provide additional parking spaces, including driveways and
walkways.

Total Sub-Consultant S/MBE Participation: 15.5 percent
Tropical
Elementary School -
Alleguez Architecture, Inc. is the architect/engineer that won the
Sheltered Market solicitation for Small Business Enterprises (SBE) / Micro
Business Enterprises (MBE) prime firms and includes mandatory Minority/Women
Business Enterprise (M/WBE) sub-consultant
goals for this project. Veitia
Padron Incorporated (VPI) was commissioned as the construction management
at-risk for renovations at Tropical Elementary. Built in 1956, the school consists
of 13 one-story buildings on six acres in the South Region. The scope of work
involves extensive renovations throughout the school campus including
renovating classrooms into complete ESE classrooms; replacing drinking
fountains; complete replacement of the Heating, Ventilation and Air
Conditioning (HVAC) system; and upgrading of the fire alarm system. This
project is a sheltered market opportunity.

Total Sub-Consultant Minority/Women
Business Enterprise (M/WBE) participation: 34.14 percent
Seminole Elementary School -
Silva Architects, LLC and J.R.T. Construction, Co. have
been chosen to provide extensive renovations at Seminole Elementary, located in
the South Region. First built in 1960, the school has had additions made throughout
the years.
Included among
the scope to be addressed are selective replacement of aluminum windows;
replacement of the fire alarm heat detector in Building 01; replacement of the
refrigerated water cooler and water heater plumbing fixtures in Building 01;
remdodeling of student restrooms in two buildings; upgrading of power service
in two buildings; and selective exterior painting.

– May 2023
Total Sub-Consultant M/WBE Participation: 19 percent
Pine Lake Elementary School -
JSA Group Inc. was commissioned as the architect/engineer
of record and Carivon Construction Company as the construction management
at-risk firm to complete renovations at Pine Lake Elementary. First built in
1976, Pine Lake is comprised of four permanent buildings and covered walkways.
The school site also includes a service
drive, on-site staff parking and a drop-off, and one portable building. The
preliminary project scope includes campus-wide miscellaneous renovations, as
well as upgrades to the fire and security alarm systems; selective replacement
of aluminum windows and the ceiling in two buildings.

Sub-Consultant M/WBE Participation: 13 percent
Hialeah Gardens Elementary - VIA Design Studio,
LLC was commissioned as architect/engineer of record and JCI International,
Inc. as the construction management at-risk firm to complete an addition and
renovations at Hialeah Gardens Elementary in the North Region. The first campus
is comprised of four permanent one-story buildings and three two-story
buildings all built in 1993. The second campus is comprised of Hialeah Gardens’
one-story Primary Learning Center (PLC). The proposed scope of work for this
project includes the addition of six classrooms; installation of additional
parking spaces; recoating/resurfacing paved play area; and the addition of a
covered walkway at the PLC.

million Completion – June 2023
Total Sub-Consultant M/WBE
Participation: 11.23 percent
All scopes shall include related
repairs to civil, structural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and finishes as
required and in compliance with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS)
Design Standards.
