EDUCATION EXPERTS READY TO SHARE THEIR KNOWLEDGE

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) provides a valuable service to the community through the Speaker’s Source, developed in response to requests from organizations for District staff to speak at meetings or other events.  The Speaker’s Source is comprised of District staff who are experts in many areas of education and the school system. “The Speakers Source is a one-stop shop, so to speak,” said Rolando Martin, M-DCPS Director of Community Development and Public Outreach.  “Representatives of community organizations do not need to have knowledge of the District’s organization in order to schedule a speaker.  When they contact us, we can find a speaker to meet their needs.”

Sample topics include school choice, special programs, student enrollment requirements, and student testing. The Citizen Information Center also receives requests for speakers who can present on non-education program issues, such as the budget and construction.  “Our club has gained substantially from speakers provided by Miami-Dade County Public Schools,” said Norman Peiser of the Miami Sundown Rotary Club.  “We are fortunate to have been introduced to quality administrators and teachers.  Each speaker gave us meaningful information through his or her expertise on education and the positive impact of the profession on our communities.”

Community organization representatives wishing to make arrangements for District staff members to speak to their group should determine what topic relative to Miami-Dade County Public Schools they wish addressed and provide the Citizen Information Center with the meeting details.  For scheduling purposes, requests should be made at least 10 working days before your event.  Please call the Citizen Information Center at 305-995-1128 to schedule a speaker or visit our online newsroom at news.dadeschools.net to download a speaker request form.
