TIPS FOR TESTING SUCCESS
The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test® (FCAT) is administered annually to students in grades 3-11 as part of the state’s overall plan to increase student achievement. The FCAT consists of criterion-referenced tests measuring selected benchmarks in the areas of mathematics, reading, science, and writing from the Sunshine State Standards.
Visit the Florida Department of Education’s website at http://fcat.fldoe.org/fcatpub3.asp to access resources students and parents can use to prepare for the tests. Among the resources are sample test materials, answers to frequently asked questions, a fact sheet, and “Keys to the FCAT” booklets.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools students made strong gains on the 2007-08 FCAT with the percentage of students meeting the State’s high measures increasing at nearly every grade level for every subject area. To continue this upward trend in student achievement, parents should make sure that their children get a good night’s sleep each night before an FCAT test and that they eat a good breakfast every morning.
