Five employees of Miami-Dade County Public Schools have been honored
by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees
(AFSCME).
Named as the AFCSME Employee of the Year was Cathy LeCounte, Food
Service Manager at Lorah Park Elementary School, where she helps
prepare lunches and breakfasts for 500 students, manages seven
employees, and assists the school staff whenever needed.
School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman commended LeCounte's
exemplary conduct, productivity and integrity. "You are not only
among the best as a public school employee, but also as an
individual," she said.
Runner-up in the annual competition was Gregory Allen, a school bus
driver assigned to the district's Southwest Transportation Center.
Other finalists were Ellis Sumpter Jr., head custodian at Richmond
Heights Middle School; Samantha Thomas, security leader at the School
Board Administration Building; and Harold L. T. Williams, grounds
foreperson at the South Central Satellite.
More than 500 people participated in the ceremony, which took place
on November 17 at Signature Gardens, 12725 S.W. 122 Avenue.
