April 15, 1999

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) Division of Bilingual/Foreign Language Skills will hold a conference, “Weaving the Fabric of Hispanic Heritage into Our Learning,” Tuesday, April 20, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Miami Airport Hilton and Towers, 5101 Blue Lagoon Drive.
The conference is designed to bring together professional educators and members of the business community in response to the community’s demand for a bilingual and biliterate work force. It is hoped the conference will assist schools in the implementation of dual language instructional programs and increase awareness of Hispanic contributions to United States history.

Conference sessions and speakers include How Bilingualism Made Me a Writer, by Ana Veciana-Suarez; Leadership, Identity, and Change, by Dr. Alma Flor Ada; and The Benefits of a Multilingual Workforce, a panel presentation by representatives of the business sector. The conference’s keynote speaker, Santiago Rodriguez, a national management and marketing consultant, will speak on Diversity: Deriving Advantage from Difference.

For more information contact Lourdes C. Rovira, Executive Director, Division of Bilingual/Foreign Language Skills, at 305-995-1945.
