A new construction training program for adults is now starting at
William H. Turner Technical Arts Senior High School, 110151 N.W. 19
Ave., Miami. Training at the school's Academy of Residential
Construction (ARC) is offered at no cost to students, and the program
boasts 100 percent placement for all graduates.
Students enrolled in the program complete up to 16 weeks of full-time
training, both in the classroom and on site building homes. The
combination of training fosters an accelerated learning curve and
allows program graduates to choose from a number of job options and
to make excellent starting wages.
The Industry Education Alliance (IEA), a very successful national
training organization, began training adults in the greater
Miami-Dade area for entry into the residential construction industry
as skilled professionals in 1994. Since then, more than 200 have
completed ARC training, and local builders and educators hail it as
one of the most successful school-to-work programs available.
The ARC training program at Turner is a partnership between Partners
for American Vocational Education (IEA's parent organization) and
Miami-Dade County Public Schools. For more information call Marcie
Vega, program coordinator, at 305-693-1000.
