Two South Florida principals will receive the Patrick Francis Daly
Award for Excellence in Educational Leadership, Thursday, July 13, at
the Omni Hotel in New Haven, Conn.
Julio T. Carrera of South Hialeah Elementary Community School and
David McCalla, former principal of Homestead Middle School, are among
nine national winners to receive the award named for the Brooklyn
principal who lost his life while going to the aid of a child.
The awards are presented by the School Development Program, a
nationally acclaimed school reform initiative of the Yale University
Child Study Center, developed by child psychiatrist James P. Comer.
They honor principals who work tirelesly on behalf of the children,
youth and families they serve.
Two Miami-Dade County Public Schools principals, Felicia D. Gil of Charles R. Hadley Elementary and Carolyn McCalla of Banyan Elementary, received last year's Daly Award.
For more information contact Cynthia R. Savo at the School Development Program's Child Study Center at 203-776-5006.
