Senior high students from Miami-Dade's public schools competed against their Florida peers last month at the 1999 DECA State Career Development Conference in Orlando.

DECA is an association of marketing students that enhances marketing education by providing related activities and leadership development based directly on classroom study. Activities focus on competition, at the local, state, and national levels, in some 17 diversified career areas, including food marketing, hotel management, retailing, and advertising.

Elected as state historian was Joangel Concepcion of North Miami Beach Senior High. Claudio Sorrentino and Claudia Rosales of Miami Beach Senior High won first place for Hospitality Management Team Decision Making; William Garcia, Simone Clarke, and Ricardo Petitfond of Miami Beach Senior High won first place for Learn and Earn Team Project; and Allen Calzadilla of Barbara Goleman Senior High won second place for Retail Marketing Research.
