DIAL-A-TEACHER SERVICE PUTS HOMEWORK HELP JUST A FEW DIGITS AWAY

February 4, 2000

Old-timers who think they had it tougher when they were kids are right: thanks to Dial-A-Teacher, schoolchildren today find help with their homework right at their fingertips.

Last month, more than 10,000 youngsters in Miami-Dade County's public schools did just that. When they sent an e-mail message to www.dial-a-teacher.com or dialed 305-995-1600 between the hours of 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., they found a certified teacher waiting. And if they chose to tune into Cable Tap Channel 37 from 5-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, they could see their homework tutor on the screen.

For the past 15 years, Dial-A-Teacher has been a service of Miami-Dade County Public Schools in cooperation with the United Teachers of Dade and WLRN-TV.

“Homework is one of the important parts of our children's learning experience," says Superintendent of Schools Roger C. Cuevas, “and Dial-A-Teacher is a great free resource that enhances the value of homework.”

For more information, call Dial-A-Teacher coordinator John Moffi at 305-995-1822.
