March 11, 1999

The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters are doing their part to support Schools Superintendent Roger C. Cuevas' “Just Read” campaign by sponsoring the “Read More to Score” contest.

The national contest, which is being implemented in cities throughout the Globetrotters’ basketball tour, encourages students to read as many books as possible within a certain time frame. The student from each participating school who reads the most books will receive two free tickets to attend the Harlem Globetrotters 7:30 p.m. game on Friday, Mar. 12, at the Miami Arena.

The school with the most books read in comparison to their student population will win three Harlem Globetrotters basketballs and a visit by one of the players, who will speak to students and give a basketball demonstration.

For further information, contact Lisa Cardenas, Bureau of Community Services, at 305-995-1215.
