ON 'JUST READ' CAMPAIGN

Gov. Jeb Bush and Education Commissioner Tom Gallagher will join
Miami-Dade school officials to speak on the Miami-Dade school
district's "Just Read" campaign to 400 legislators and other local
leaders at a 7:30 a.m. breakfast Thursday, April 8, at the Doubletree
Hotel, 101 South Adams St., Tallahassee.
The event will begin with the unveiling of a video endorsement of the
reading campaign by former First Lady Barbara Bush. Dr. Solomon C.
Stinson, chair of the Miami-Dade County School Board, and
Superintendent of Schools Roger C. Cuevas will make brief remarks
about the local impact of the "Just Read" campaign.
They will be followed by Commissioner Gallagher, who will offer a
statewide perspective on how adult and child literacy relate to
parental involvement and standardized test scores. Gov. Bush will
close the program with a speech on the importance of literacy to
Florida's economic development.
