Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) has received the first 25 complimentary copies of “Survivors: Testimonies of the Holocaust,” an educational CD-ROM two-disk set produced by Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization founded by Steven Spielberg.

The Robert Russell Memorial Foundation is the first grant-making organization to partner with the Shoah Foundation to send these educational CD-ROMS, along with teacher support materials, to M-DCPS Division of Social Sciences. Dr. Miriam Klein Kassenoff, Educational Specialist on Holocaust Studies, will plan teacher training seminars on this valuable resource and distribute the disks to high schools.

“Survivors: Testimonies of the Holocaust” will allow students to learn about the Holocaust directly from four of its survivors whose first-hand video testimonies provide detailed information about their experiences before, during and after the Holocaust. These powerful testimonies are linked to a wealth of interactive tools on the disks including yearly historical overviews, maps, timelines and a reference library. These dynamic features provide comprehensive historical content for the survivors' stories. Narration on the CD-ROMs is provided by actors Winona Ryder and Leonardo DiCaprio.

For more information, contact Dr. Geneva K. Woodard, District Director, Division of Social Sciences/Special Programs, at 305-995-1975.
