Marjorie Pearlson will receive the U.S. Department of Education's
John Stanford Education Heroes Award from Education Secretary Richard
Riley at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec.14, at the Anderson House, 2118
Massachusetts Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C.
Pearlson has been a citizen advocate for community schools for more
than 30 years. She was instrumental in making Palmetto Senior High
School the county's first such educational facility. Through her
perseverance, she has helped establish 60 community schools in the
greater Miami area that offer programs and services for all ages.
