Claude Archer, a teacher at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Elementary School, was named one of Florida's 2000 Milken Educator Awardees at a presentation held at the school last week.

The award, presented by Florida Education Commissioner Tom Gallagher and sponsored by the Milken Family Foundation, celebrates and rewards educators who make great strides in improving our educational system.

Archer will receive a $25,000 unrestricted financial award and will become part of the Milken Educator Network, comprised of more than 1,650 of the nation's most outstanding educators. This network will provide him with a variety of professional resources to help cultivate and expand innovative programs in his classroom, school and district. Archer also will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Los Angeles to participate in the Milken National Education Conference in June 2001.
