MULTILINGUAL PARENT CONFERENCES

Half-day multilingual parent involvement conferences covering topics
such as how the school system works, getting answers, testing, and
grading schools will be held at three locations around Miami-Dade
County on Saturday morning, Oct. 23.
Simultaneous conferences will be held at North Miami Senior High
School, 800 N.E. 137 St.; Miami Central Senior High School, 1781 N.W.
95 St.; and Miami Killian Senior High School, 10655 S.W. 97 Ave.
Registration and continental breakfast at each conference is
scheduled from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m., followed by a general session.
Three sequential series of workshops will cover the role of parents
in educating their children and in becoming involved in school
affairs. A 1:15 p.m. lunch with door prizes will wrap up the
conferences.
The conferences are sponsored by Miami-Dade County Public Schools,
the Family & Community Involvement Advisory Committee, the Dade
County Council PTA/PTSA, the Council of Advisory Committees, United
Teachers of Dade, Title I, Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resource
System-South, and the Division of Bilingual/Foreign Language
Skills.
The conferences are free, but registration prior to Oct. 20 is
required. Spanish and Haitian-Creole translators and child care
should be requested at the time of registration. To register or for
