M-DCPS' OFFICE OF THE CONTROLLER WINS NATIONAL AWARDS

August 22, 2003

Miami-Dade County Public Schools' Office of the Controller recently qualified for a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the 2002 fiscal year. Awarded by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

Additionally, Controller Connie Pou received an Award of Financial Achievement for the primary responsibility of preparing the winning CAFR.

The CAFR is widely respected by accounting professionals, underwriters, securities analysts, bond rating agencies, and state and federal fiscal accountability agencies. This prestigious national award is judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.
