Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Merrett R. Stierheim will accept a $10,000 donation from Citco for assistance to the school district's driver education program at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, in Room 904 of the School Board Administration Building, 1450 N.E. Second Ave.

Rep. Irv Slosberg, who along with Stierheim and Miami-Dade Commissioner Natacha Seijas helped save the driver education program, is scheduled to attend and help present the check. He will be accompanied by Sen. Larcenia Bullard, Sen. Frederica Wilson, Rep. Edward Bullard, Rep. Phillip J. Brutus, Rep. Juan-Carlos Planas, Rep. Julio Robaina and Miami-Dade driver education teacher Mike Frissora. Slosberg helped pass legislation allowing the county commission to add an extra $3 fine to traffic tickets to pay for driver education in county schools.

"This contribution signals the willingness of the business sector to support programs that benefit our entire community," said Stierheim.

Citco has pledged $30,000 over the next year. This is the second of three installments.
