SUPERINTENDENT STIERHEIM TO SIGN AGREEMENT WITH FRENCH OFFICIALS

January 16, 2003

Superintendent Merrett R. Stierheim will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 4 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2003, in room 916 of the School Board Administration Building, 1450 N.E. Second Ave.

The original agreement, signed in 1989 and renewed in 1991, envisioned the creation of the French section of the International Studies (IS) Program. Since its inception, the IS Program has proven to be an academically excellent K-12 program that offers students the opportunity to become biliterate and bicultural. The signing of the current MOU will reaffirm the long history of educational collaboration between Miami-Dade County Public Schools and The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The program is currently being offered at Sunset Elementary, George W. Carver Middle, and Coral Reef Senior High schools.

Consul General of France Cristophe Bouchard will represent the French Ministry at the signing.
