SUPT. ANNOUNCES JANUARY' S BOOKS OF THE MONTH

Miami-Dade's Superintendent of Schools Merrett R. Stierheim announced January's Books of the Month today, in conjunction with the school district's successful JUST READ campaign to encourage reading.

"Our January selections are quality reading materials that young readers and their families can read together throughout the new year," said Stierheim. "Be on the lookout for new reading selections to be announced each month to keep student reading momentum going."

Recommended by the district's reading teachers and media specialists, these selections are to hone reading skills at various grade levels. January's selections are:

THEME: CLASSICS

Primary (Kindergarten-Grade 2)	The Adventures of Tom Thumb by Marianna Mayer
Intermediate (Grades 3-5)	Stuart Little by E.B. White
Middle School	The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
Senior High/Adult	Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
Multilingual Grades 3-5 (Spanish)	Doña Perfecta by Benito Pérez Galdós

January's Books of the Month, as well as reading tips for students and parents, can be accessed online at the district's reading website portal.dadeschools.net/library/index.htm. Monthly reading selections are available at school libraries.
