BLOOD DRIVE TO PROCEED AS PLANNED

November 27, 2001

An emergency blood drive, which was cancelled because of the death of its beneficiary, will proceed as planned on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Leisure City K-8 Center, 14950 S.W. 288th St.

The drive originally was scheduled to help Jose Palacios Jr., an 11-year-old student at the school, who had been diagnosed with leukemia and needed blood transfusions while he awaited a bone marrow transplant. Palacios died yesterday, Nov. 26. Students and staff agreed that the drive should go on to help the community.

The school's principal, Adrienne L. Wright, described Jose as a dedicated student who continued his schoolwork in spite of exhausting medical treatments. The blood drive will be dedicated in his honor.

For more information, contact Wright, at 305-247-5431, ext. 134.
