SANTA AND ELVES TO VISIT LEISURE CITY K-8 CENTER, DEC. 20 December 19, 2001 Santa and his elves will arrive by fire truck at Leisure City K-8 Center on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. The school is located at 14950 S.W. 288 St., Homestead. Pastor Paul Forrey and members of the Sunset Congregational Church "adopted" the school's students in 1992 after Hurricane Andrew. Each holiday season, the pastor and congregation members make sure that each of the school's approximately 1,800 students receives a gift during Santa's visit. Face-painting, story-telling, and snacks of cookies and juice complete a special day that may be the only holiday experience many of the children enjoy. The church has also provided students with school supplies, donations for school uniforms and assitance for families in times of extreme need.
