SCHOOL BOARD NAMES MERRETT STIERHEIM TO INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT POST October 18, 2001 Click here for Bio The Miami-Dade County School Board named former county manager Merrett R. Stierheim as interim Superintendent of Schools at a special meeting yesterday. Selected from among 22 candidates, Stierheim is the first superintendent in 44 years to be chosen from outside the school system, as well as the first non-educator to head the district. He brings over 30 years of challenging managerial experience to the position. While the School Board conducts a national search for a permanent superintendent, Stierheim plans to tackle such immediate, critical issues as the system's budget and classroom overcrowding.
