M-DCPS TO CELEBRATE A DECADE OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN
INSTRUCTION
MIAMI
&endash;Miami-Dade County Public Schools will celebrate "A
Gift of Freedom," a commemoration of the 10-year anniversary
of required instruction in African-American history with two
events, Friday, Dec. 10 and Saturday, Dec. 11.
Friday's presentation will take place at 10 a.m. at the
School Board Administration Building auditorium, 1450 N.E.
Second Ave. Saturday's event will take place at 11 a.m. at
the 500 Role Models of Excellence Academy's atrium-library,
6300 N.W. 27 Ave.
Both events will feature a presentation from Carl B.
Westmoreland, Senior Advisor and Consultant to the National
Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Saturday's event will
also mark the opening of the traveling exhibition, "Free at
Last: A History of Abolition in America," presented by Yale
University.
These events are co-sponsored by M-DCPS Division of Social
Sciences, the Superintendent's African-American History
Advisory Committee and the City of Miami Overtown NET.
