SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET SEPTEMBER 8

The Miami-Dade County School Board will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m. in the auditorium of the School Board Administration Building (SBAB), 1450 N.E. Second Avenue.

Among items to be discussed are:

  • A Five Year Educational Facilities Work Plan that will triple the number of student stations to be completed for the 2005-2006 school year, from 5,845 to 15,000. In addition, the plan calls for a reorganization of the district's facilities and construction departments to increase efficiency and boost accountability.

  • Adoption of a record $4.79 billion annual budget. In addition the board will discuss proposed budget amendments that will preserve the district's contingency reserve at $40 million and create a reserve to be used for salary increases.

The meeting will be broadcast on WLRN-TV Channel 17 and FM-91.3. It will recess at 5:01 p.m. for a scheduled Budget Public Hearing.
