BOLAÑOS, INGRAM TAPPED TO LEAD MIAMI-DADE SCHOOL
BOARD
THREE NEWLY ELECTED BOARD MEMBERS SWORN INTO OFFICE
MIAMI
&endash;Veteran School Board Member Frank J. Bolaños
was chosen unanimously today to chair the Miami-Dade County
School Board in the coming year.
"I hope that I can serve as a bridge to bring together some
of the new folks, new ideas, the change agents that are part
of us, with those who have been with us a while longer in
the board and in the administration and in the classroom,"
Mr. Bolaños said. "It's an exciting new time with a
new Superintendent, a new Board, and I think it's perhaps an
unprecedented opportunity for us to move forward to support
an agenda of positive change and reform."
First appointed to the Board by Gov. Jeb Bush to represent
District 5, Mr. Bolaños has served for three years
and was re-elected without opposition. He succeeds Dr.
Michael M. Krop, who chaired the Board for two years.
Six-year Board Member Robert B. Ingram was selected
unanimously to continue as vice-chair. The former mayor of
Opa-locka and assistant to the president for urban affairs
at Florida Memorial College represents District 1.
Dr. Ingram, also re-elected without opposition, called the
first meeting of the newly installed School Board "a new
beginning."
"I will be a supporter of ideas and ideals that are moving
forward," he said.
Three new Board Members elected earlier this month were
sworn in today. Each will serve a four&endash;year term.
They are as follows:
Dr.
Martin Karp, a teacher, representing District 3
Ana
Rivas Logan, an assistant principal, representing
District 7
Evelyn
Langlieb Greer, a lawyer and former mayor of Pinecrest,
representing District 9
Dr. Karp and
Ms. Logan will take leaves of absence during their service
on the Board.
