M-DCPS OFFERS CONNECT WITH KIDS PROGRAM TO ADDRESS RISK
FACTORS
January 7, 2004
Miami-Dade County Public Schools is taking part in Connect
With Kids, a life skills/character education program.
Students from 30 elementary, middle and high schools are
participating.
The program is sponsored by Wachovia Bank and WFOR Channel
4. Corresponding television specials are airing on WFOR.
Topics include obesity, peer pressure, self-esteem and
violence prevention.
"Character education plays an important role in helping our
students become productive members of society," said
Superintendent of Schools, Merrett R. Stierheim. "It helps
them learn right from wrong and how to respond to the
different choices posed by daily life in today's complex
world."
The curriculum, which is correlated with Sunshine State
Standards, will be implemented in late-January/early
February.
