FLORIDA BOARD OF EDUCATION TO CONSIDER $3 MILLION
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP WITH M-DCPS

October 18, 2004

The Florida Board of Education will consider a $3 million professional development partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) at their meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 8:30 a.m. in the School Board Administration Building auditorium, 1450 N.E. Second Ave.

The partnership will be among M-DCPS, the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) and the University of Miami, which will assist in implementing and evaluating a continuous improvement model of planning and teaching in the 39 schools that are part of the School Improvement Zone. Eventually, this model may be duplicated and used district-wide and throughout the state.

Miami-Dade Superintendent of Schools Rudolph F. "Rudy" Crew is scheduled to appear at the meeting. Legislative updates, a hurricane recovery overview and other education issues also will be discussed. The eight-member state board is responsible for supervising Florida's public education system.
