March 5, 2004

The English Center, a Miami-Dade County Public Schools adult education center, received national accreditation from The Commission of the Council on Occupational Education (COE) last month.

The COE is a non-profit organization dedicated to assuring quality and integrity in career and workforce development. It is made up of 435 diverse members including Job Corps Centers, military and national defense schools, private career schools, corporate and industry education units and more. Membership is voluntary and the accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

The English Center was granted accreditation based on a self-study and an intensive review by a visiting team of professional educators representing the commission's member institutions from other states. Applicants must demonstrate that the institution meets the quality standards of COE as well as the needs of the students, community and employers.
