M-DCPS STUDENTS SEND A MESSAGE DURING HEAT HALFTIME
SHOW
MIAMI &endash; The hopes and dreams of thousands of
Miami-Dade County Public Schools students will adorn the
American Airlines Arena Friday night when the Miami HEAT
battles the Memphis Grizzlies. Paper chains made up of
thousands of links bearing students' messages of hope, care
and concern will reach across the stadium during the game's
halftime show.
The chains were a part of the school district's student
United Way campaign this year, when students in all public
schools participated in the "Linking What Matters" activity,
creating paper links and writing about the things that
matter most to them. The purpose: to show all students, in
all grade levels, the importance of recognizing people and
things important to them.
Capping a successful United Way campaign in which they
raised close to $750,000, M-DCPS students will share their
messages during the halftime show at the HEAT vs. Grizzlies
game, when they will connect their "links" to form a paper
chain and exhibit over 300,000 messages about what matters
most to them.
The game begins at 7:30 p.m. at the American Airlines arena.
