May 18, 2004

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Miami-Dade County Public Schools the 2004 Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Great Start Award.

The award recognizes the district's commitment to improving the indoor air quality in schools and protecting the health and safety of students and staff. It is awarded to school districts that are in the initial stages of implementing the Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Program.

The Tools for Schools Program teaches schools how to carry out a practical plan of action to improve indoor air problems using readily available resources. The program kit includes an Indoor Air Quality Problem Solving Wheel, a fact-sheet on indoor air pollution issues, and sample policies and memos.
