M-DCPS EDUCATOR WINS INTERNATIONAL HONOR

MAST Academy High School educator Wafa Khalil is a winner of the prestigious Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) Excellence in Teaching Award. She will attend the Intel fair May 9-14 in Portland, Ore. to share her winning methods with other teachers.

Khalil developed an integrated science course and curriculum titled, Energy for Sustainability: Solar Energy and Alternative Resources. She has written a textbook for the course that was approved for use by the Florida Department of Education. Khalil is one of five teachers from around the world to receive the ISEF award this year. All winners will vie for up to $10,000 to replicate their program in other schools.

The ISEF award showcases high school math and science teachers who excel in project-based learning. The fair is the world's largest pre-college science event for young scientists and inventors.
