M-DCPS TAKES BIG STEPS IN EASING
OVERCROWDING, SERVING MORE STUDENTS
MIAMI - Plans
to significantly increase new student stations for the
2005-2006 school year received a boost Wednesday, with the
identification of additional sites to receive additions and
renovations.
At the September School Board meeting, Superintendent
Rudolph F. "Rudy" Crew pledged to triple the number of seats
being added from 5,825 to 15,000 by the start of the
2005-2006 school year.
The School Board approved a list of additional schools that
will receive stations. More than 50 school sites have been
identified as providing new student stations, most of which
will be delivered through an ambitious effort to construct
modular classroom buildings by the start of the 2005-2006
school year.
Of all the identified school sites, 28 are additional
projects to be funded. In approving this plan the School
Board has authorized that the Five-Year Educational
Facilities Work Plan be amended to reflect $100 million in
new funding to complete the student stations.
