THE NUMBER ONE MOST IMPORTANT INFLUENCE
IN A CHILD'S EDUCATION? PARENTS!

August 13, 2004

Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) kicks off the 2004-2005 school year with an important message for parents: They are the most important influence in a child's education.

Parents are strongly encouraged to be active in their children's education. They are their children's primary teachers, and the habits and examples parents set at home will guide them throughout their lives. Parents have many options for becoming involved in their children's education, and countless studies show that whichever option they choose, they are sure to boost their children's prospects for success.

Parents can start by visiting one of the two brand-new M-DCPS parent resource centers, at the North Miami Beach and South Kendall campuses of Nova Southeastern University. The centers offer training, support groups, referral networks and informational mini-fairs throughout the year.

M-DCPS also has an advocacy director in each of its six ACCESS Centers who can help parents play a greater role in their children's schooling. For additional information, parents can contact the Parent ACCESS District Office at 305-995-2680.
