M-DCPS STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN POLITICAL FORUM

February 23, 2004

The M-DCPS District-wide Student Political Forum will be held at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School, 1410 N.E. 215th St., on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium. All major presidential candidates have been invited and attendance by their representatives has been confirmed by the campaigns of Pres. Bush, Sen. John Kerry, Sen. John Edwards and Congressman Dennis Kucinich.

The forum will provide high school seniors the opportunity to question representatives on their platforms and positions on domestic and foreign policies. Over 500 students from 32 schools are expected to attend. They will be electronically polled on their choice of president before and after the forum. Additionally, elections department officials will be on hand to demonstrate new voting machines. Education reporter Ed O'Dell will moderate the forum.

"All of our eligible students are registered to vote," notes School Board Chair Michael Krop. "These candidates see our young people as a population that is critical to the democratic process."
