M-DCPS SCHOOLS RECEIVE GOVERNOR'S STERLING AWARD

May 28, 2004

Dante B. Fascell Elementary School and North Beach Elementary School are recipients of the 2004 Governor's Sterling Award, Florida's most prestigious award for performance excellence. The schools are two of only four organizations within the state that received the award.

"The administrators and staff at Dante B. Fascell and North Beach elementary schools are to be commended for this outstanding achievement," said Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Merrett R. Stierheim. "They are models of excellence for others to follow."

The award recognizes organizations and businesses in Florida that have achieved performance excellence within their management and operations. Each winner underwent a series of in-depth assessments and evaluations by Sterling examiners that analyzed productivity and organizational performance. Both schools have a school performance grade of "A."

Established in 1992, the Florida Sterling Council is a public/private not-for-profit corporation supported by the Executive Office of the Governor. Dante B. Fascell Principal Estela Santiago can be contacted at 305-380-1901; North Beach Principal Aida Marrero can be reached at 305-531-7666.
