SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT ZONE HOLDS PARENT CONFERENCE

WHO: 
School Improvement Zone parents, principals, community leaders, school community involvement specialists
WHAT:
The Parent Academy Summer Institute Parent Conference. Internationally-recognized educator Patricia A. Edwards, Ph.D., Professor of Language and Literacy, Michigan State University, will be the keynote speaker for the opening session. James Vopat, founder and director of the Milwaukee Writing Project, and Professor of Writing and Literature, Carroll College will keynote the conference luncheon. Vopat also is the author of “The Parent Project.” The conference is part of the District’s summer institute, where School Improvement Zone parents have the opportunity to take courses on topics such as computer and family literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages. Parents also have the opportunity to earn their Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED). During the conference parents will take part in breakout sessions facilitated by Miami-Dade County Public Schools staff and community partners.

Concurrent Sessions: One - 10:15 to 11:05 a.m.
                                        (8 concurrent breakout sessions)
