NORTH MIAMI SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT SPENDS THE DAY MIAMI — North Miami Senior High School student, Anackus Fortilus, spent the day with U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek and met with U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson as part of national Job Shadow Day. Working with Junior Achievement, Youth Crime Watch of America chose Anackus to shadow the legislators because of his leadership and community service activities at his school. He was a leader in the award-winning Peer Educators Group, a Youth Crime Watch website. Anackus also was featured on NBC6’s South Florida Today last week. Job Shadowing 2007 kicked off this year on Feb. 2 and is part of a year-long effort to give students on-the-job experiences through career mentors. Anackus was one of 10,000 students who participated in Job Shadow Day. Now in its 10th year, National Job Shadow Day is made possible by America's Promise, Junior Achievement, the U.S. Department of Education, and the U.S. Department of Labor, and is sponsored by ING. National partners include the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE).
