SUSAN R. GREEN: CHALLENGES STUDENTS TO GET INVOLVED IT TAKES…COURAGE M-DCPS Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week, May 7-11 Whether it’s studying a flooded forest in the Amazon or observing the eating habits of grizzly bears in Alaska, educator Susan Green integrates real-life experiences into her 11th-12th grade environmental science classes at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High to educate her students about the importance of our environment and the measures needed to preserve it. The Week of May 7-11 is Teacher Appreciation Week, and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) will celebrate Green and its more than 21,000 teachers with the It Takes…Courage poster, which features all the Teacher of the Year Finalists. A 30-year education veteran and Teacher-of-the-Year finalist, Green has dedicated herself to producing involved citizens who cherish the environment. Through her efforts, Krop students have built and maintained a pond ecosystem, aquaculture tanks, a butterfly garden and a vegetable garden on the school campus. Green literally is bringing the world to her students. “I encourage everyone to take a moment to thank teachers for the difference they are making everyday,” said M-DCPS Superintendent Rudy Crew. # # # The It Takes… Courage poster features Teacher of the Year Joan Sharperson, Joella C.
