RICHARD INGRAHAM JR., A CREATIVE CHEF IN THE CLASSROOM

IT TAKES… COURAGE

M-DCPS Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week, May 7-11

Professional Chef Richard Ingraham, Jr. did more than just switching jobs six years ago when he became a teacher—he added a second career when he brought his culinary talents to the classroom. At the South Dade Adult Education Center, he’s taught Culinary Arts for the past three years changing the lives of his students, many of who are emotionally challenged or come from disadvantaged homes.

The Week of May 7-11 is Teacher Appreciation Week, and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) will celebrate Ingraham and its more than 21,000 teachers with the It Takes…Courage poster, which features all the Teacher of the Year Finalists.

By demonstrating his techniques, using recipes to promote reading and motivating his students to gain confidence in their ability, Ingraham has been able to reach his students and demand the best from them both in the classroom and in the kitchen

“I encourage everyone to take a moment to thank teachers for the difference they are making everyday,” said M-DCPS Superintendent Rudy Crew.
