MAYOR ALVAREZ TO HONOR MIAMI - Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez will congratulate the students of Herbert A. Ammons Middle School for completing the requirements of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program at a ceremony to be held at the Robert Morgan Senior High School auditorium on Tuesday, May 22nd at 8 p.m. Mayor Alvarez will also present the evening’s keynote address. In order to receive this prestigious award, Ammons’ students had to fulfill the following rigorous requirements:
Herbert A. Ammons Middle was just authorized to offer the first school-wide three-year International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) in Miami-Dade County Public Schools and in all of south Florida. Ammons joins 15 other schools state-wide and over 500 schools world-wide that offer the prestigious IBMYP. Herbert A. Ammons Middle School is a stand-out magnet school and one of the most recognized schools in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system. As an ‘A’ school for six years in a row, Ammons was recognized this year for having the third highest FCAT scores in the state of Florida. Ammons students come from over 50 elementary schools and form a talented, multi-ethnic group that is 52 percent Hispanic, 24 percent Black, 16 percent White and 4 percent Asian – truly a snap-shot of the diversity that is Miami-Dade County!
