HELPFUL ORIENTATIONS SCHEDULED FOR NEW MIDDLE, MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) School Improvement Zone will host orientations for students entering five middle schools and eight high schools. The orientations will take place on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon for new middle school students and Sunday, Aug. 19 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for new high schools students at their respective new schools. This year’s theme is “Preparing Students for the Middle School Transition and Preparing Students for High School and Beyond.” The District is placing an emphasis on parental involvement not only with the new student orientation, but with every aspect of a student’s matriculation in M-DCPS. The orientation is an opportunity for students and parents/guardians to meet school administrators, counselors and other key personnel. During the orientation, parents will learn how to get involved in their child’s school and will be introduced to the Parent Portal, which allows parents unprecedented access to their child’s academic information and other important data. Students will learn about “Middle School Moves and High School Tools for Success,” a program that explains the expectations of school, as well as educational opportunities available to them. The School Improvement Zone is a differentiated approach to public education that promotes high achievement and eliminates low student performance for students in M-DCPS. The orientation dates, locations and telephone numbers are: Saturday, Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon
Sunday, Aug. 19 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
