M-DCPS VETERAN EDUCATOR FEATURED IN MIAMI - Maria Teresa Rojas, a 30-year veteran of the Miami-Dade school district, is among a group of distinguished individuals featured in the 2008 Edition of the Florida Hispanic Yearbook, La Guía de Oro. The edition will be launched on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 6 p.m., at the Coral Gables City Hall, 405 Biltmore Way, Coral Gables, FL 33134. Rojas, whose family fled Cuba in the early 1960s, served for over 10 years as principal at three different elementary schools: Bel-Aire, Sunset and Flagami. She was also director of instructional support at Region 5 and currently serves as assistant superintendent in the Office of Professional Standards. She is the only Hispanic currently serving on the Board of Trustees for the School of Deaf and the Blind. “I decided to pursue a career in education where I could give back to a community that in previous years had embraced my family and me with open arms,” Rojas says. “Wonderful teachers had truly made a positive impact on my life and now I was going to reciprocate.” The yearbook, issued by TiYM Publishing Company, Inc. in Virginia, is a directory for and about the Hispanic community in South Florida, featuring a comprehensive listings of Hispanic non-profit organizations, publications, legislators, conventions and events. # # # 07-FMN-183/HD |
